The town of Sandakan is located on the eastern coast of Sabah and, whilst a relatively unremarkable town itself, is the ideal base to explore the surrounding region - namely Selingan 'Turtle' Island, the idyllic Lankayan Island, Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary and the outdoor highlights to be explored in the Kinabatangan River region and in the Danum Valley.

What to do in Sandakan

Along with the Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary, points of interest within Sandakan itself include the port, with views out to the South China Sea, and the Puh Jij Suh Chinese Temple.
