More of a village than a capital city, any first time visit to Vientiane is a truly unique experience. Whilst it can be considered ‘lively and hectic’ in the context of Laos, Vientiane is anything but that when compared to any other worldwide capital city!
rnLocated on the banks of the Mekong River, Vientiane is well worth a visit if time permits.
rnVientiane is easy to get around on foot or by bicycle, and the relaxed pace of this Lao ‘economic powerhouse’ lends itself to enjoying a cup of the excellent Lao coffee whilst watching the world go by.
rnThe local morning market and several city centre temples are amongst the key attractions, complemented by a good selection of restaurants and beer gardens for the evening’s entertainment.
rnWander and wonder. Although there are now one or two modern office buildings sprinkled across the city, the vast majority or the architecture is very much French colonial in origin – and don’t be surprised to stumble across the odd vegetable field in what you thought was the city centre!
