Malaysia - Getting to know the Perhentian Islands
rnLocated 20km off the north east coast of Malaysia, and just 64km from the border with Thailand are Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil, commonly known as the Perhentian Islands. Some argue they are the most beautiful islands in Malaysia - the palm fringed white sandy beaches and turquoise waters certainly ensure the quality of beach holiday usually depicted on a postcard.
rnWhat to do on the Perhentian Islands
rnThe most common activities (other than sunbathing!) are snorkelling and swimming in the shallow, clear water, which provides an excellent opportunity to see rays, cuttlefish and parrotfish, to name a few. For the more adventurous, diving on the Perhentian Islands is considered amongst the best in the world, and usually sits neear the top of most PADI holders' to-do lists.
rnGood to know
rnThe better accommodation is found on Pulau Perhentian Besar (the larger of the two islands), but it's worth recognising that the Perhentian experience is all about lying back and re-discovering your travel roots - if you're looking for deluxe resorts & spas, you’re in the wrong place!
