Cycle Thailand to Cambodia, Touring Bangkok to Siem Reap

Why take a flight or a bus from Bangkok to Siem Reap and miss the beautiful views and friendly people along the way? Instead, try biking and explore a special part of Southeast Asia. Ride along the Thai coast, through fruit orchards, gem mining towns, and charming Cambodian cities known for their French architecture and ancient temples.

You’ll meet locals, enjoy comfortable places to stay, and taste delicious food while traveling on lesser-known paths in Southeast Asia.

What’s the riding like?

This tour includes 250 km (155 miles) of mostly flat riding, with a few gentle hills. We ride at an easy pace, making it suitable for those wanting a relaxing experience or those new to cycling.

You’ll encounter different surfaces, including dirt roads and asphalt. In Cambodia, some trails might be a bit bumpy. As you cross the hills between Thailand and Cambodia, you’ll enjoy a gentle downhill ride after going uphill, making it manageable for most cyclists.

If you need a break, our support vehicles are ready to help.

For an extra boost, you can upgrade to pedal-assist E-bikes for $160.

8 AM Bangkok hotel pickup. 2.5-hour scenic transfer south, starting our bike journey from a tranquil Buddhist temple. Gentle ride through charming villages, followed by delicious Pad Thai lunch. Evening arrival at a stunning Gulf of Thailand resort with coastal walks and views of Koh Samet island.

  • 2

We start early to beat the heat, then hop on our bikes after a quick drive. Along the coast, we ride on a gently rolling road lined with food vendors and cafes, perfect for breaks. After lunch and maybe a swim, we pedal on to Chanthaburi, reaching our cozy resort on the outskirts, nestled by an irrigation channel.

  • 3

Morning: Bike around Chanthaburi, visit Catholic quarter, morning market, and fruit orchards. Stop at Durian Land. Lunch, then van to Thailand/Cambodia border. Meet Cambodian team. Arrival in Battambang before sunset.

  • 4

This morning, we’ll join a tour led by students from Kinyei, a local group that helps people learn new skills. They run a biking program called Soksabike. We’ll ride around Battambang’s villages to see how people live and work, especially when it comes to food. You’ll see how they make rice wine, dried bananas, and a snack called Kralanh (bamboo sticky rice). It’s a fun way to learn about life here.

  • 5

Take a morning ride through Battambang’s stunning countryside. Drive past villages and forests to reach Prasat Banan, an ancient temple atop a steep hill. Climb the stairs for great views and learn about the temple’s history.

As you explore, see the diverse local way of life, including mosques.

After the ride, return to your hotel for lunch and a break.

In the afternoon, say goodbye to Battambang and enjoy a scenic three-hour drive to Siem Reap. Take in the countryside views and look forward to the adventures awaiting you there.

  • 6

This morning, we’ll ride through trails in Angkor archaeological park. We’ll see lesser-known temples like Preah Khan and Ta Som, and have lunch at a local house. Sometimes, we’ll see lots of tourists, but we’ll avoid the crowds. We’ll finish our ride before sunset, maybe with a drink. Then, we’ll go to a great restaurant in Siem Reap for dinner with special family recipes.

  • 7

Get ready to wake up early today, even before the sun rises and the roosters start crowing. We’ll head to Angkor National Park to watch the sunrise behind the main temple if the weather’s good.

After sunrise, when the crowds thin out, we’ll start exploring the ancient temples. We’ll ride bikes along narrow tracks to famous temples like Bayon and Ta Prohm, as well as some less-known ones. Breakfast will be at one of these peaceful spots.

Later, we’ll have lunch by the Sra Srang Reservoir near Angkor Wat temple before going back to the hotel.

In the afternoon, our biking adventure ends, and you can relax during check-out at the hotel. Whether you’re heading to the airport or staying longer, our team is here to help. Just let them know if you need a ride to the airport or want to explore more, and they’ll take care of it.

We did a 10 day private tour of Thailand with Amazing Bike Tours (ABT), including a couple of days of biking in Chiang Mai and a day in Phuket. ABT put together a great mix of biking and classic tours at a reasonable price. They responded quickly to emails and were very easy to deal with. The whole trip was fantastic, from the boat trips to James Bond Island to staying overnight in Bangkok and other towns. Our guide, Tom, was not only knowledgeable but also really friendly - he even became our unofficial photographer and shared all his photos with us. I definitely recommend ABT if you're planning a trip to Asia.

I booked Cycle Thailand to Cambodia in 2023. Stephen at Amazing Bike Tours was excellent, very helpful, responsive and knowledgeable. In particular, our local tour guide Tom was outstanding. He was essential to connecting with local village people, visit remote villages, and explore exotic food. Can't wait for my next adventure

We spent 12 days with Amazing Bike Tours from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh via Battambang. Our tour was perfectly tailored to our route and physical condition and on the last day, we were safely transported to our beach accommodation in Sihanoukville. The organization was flawless from start to finish. The accommodation was also comfortable, allowing us to rest well after eventful days. The tour provided great value for money. The experiences were unique and could fill two vacation reports! The bikes were perfectly adjusted to our needs, with well-maintained gears and brakes. If there was a minor issue, the guide promptly addressed it. The minivan support was modern and very comfortable. The driver was excellent and we felt safe! Besides the visual impressions, we learned a lot about the country and its people.

We had a custom and private 3-day bike tour in the Mekong Delta with Loc, our expert bike tour guide who organized, coordinated, and led three days of fantastic bike touring. Our tour of the the Mekong Delta included Cai Lay, Cai Be, Can Tho, and My Tho, before catching a luxury Mekong River cruise up to Cambodia. Loc was a great guide who really helped us appreciate the culture of the untouched tourist areas of the delta where we met fantastic people and toured through incredible villages, markets, Khmer temple, and even a local school. Loc did an excellent job of pacing the bike ride to our activity level and we enjoyed some great lunches at some local residences, even picking up some rat at a local market we toured and having it expertly prepared at a local home. Our best, most authentic Vietnamese meals were enjoyed on this biking tour. We had a van w/driver following us throughout the bike rides to ensure we had plenty of water and picked us up when we were ready to be done for the day. Loc also gave us a tour of Saigon as well as the underground Vietnam war tunnels at Cu Chi. I can't say enough about the biking tours and Loc was just a fantastic guide. We hated to say good-bye as we continued our tour of Southeast Asia but will always cherish the bike tour we had with Loc in Vietnam.
