Discover the Ancient Cham Civilization at My Son Sanctuary

Begin your day early and embark on a memorable journey to the My Son Sanctuary, Vietnam’s most important Cham archaeological site. Just a two hour drive from Hoi An, this UNESCO World Heritage Site lies tucked away in a serene valley surrounded by jungle clad hills and the striking Cat’s Tooth Mountain.

 Getting There

To beat the crowds and catch the morning light, you’ll need to depart at dawn from your accommodation. The road is a bit bumpy, but the scenic countryside and coffee farms along the way make the journey worthwhile.

 What is My Son?

My Son was once the spiritual and political capital of the ancient Cham Empire, which ruled over much of central and southern Vietnam for centuries before being displaced by Vietnamese expansion. The sanctuary is a complex of Hindu temple ruins dedicated to Shiva, the supreme god of the Cham people.

Scattered throughout the lush valley, these red-brick towers and sanctuaries are architectural masterpieces built between the 4th and 13th centuries.

 A Peaceful Setting

Set between verdant hills and flowing streams, the tranquil setting of My Son offers a stark contrast to its turbulent past. As you explore, you’ll walk among ruined towers, jungle vines, and the remnants of a once-flourishing civilization.

Return to Hoi An for Lunch

After your historical exploration, return to Hoi An just in time for a delicious Vietnamese lunch and some well-earned rest.
