Takayama Visit

Walk the path that circles Teramachi's numerous temples and shrines after seeing the historic shops and museums of Sanmachi District and before taking a leisurely walk through Shiroyama Park. Try to squeeze in a trip to the Hida Folk Village open-air museum.

A morning market is held every day at the center bridge (Nakabashi) on the eastern side of the bigger of the town's two rivers, the cherry tree-lined Miyagawa. The Miyagawa and its smaller tributary, the Enakogawa, are beautiful to walk along year-round, particularly when the sakura blossoms in the spring.

Although Takayama is somewhat compact, a thorough exploration will require a fair amount of foot travel.
