Travel two hours north-east of Luang Namtha, and you will stumble across the small trekking centre that is Muang Sing, seemingly stuck in the middle of nowhere. Its popularity grew thanks to its stunning setting, laid-back atmosphere and the obvious appeal of its proximity to… well, to nowhere, really.
rnThere are several large populations of local ethnic minority groups living in the region such as the Hmong, Tai Dam, Akha, Tai Lue and Yao with men and women in traditional dress being a common site in the town.
rnMuang Sing is relatively attractive with wood-build houses, many in a traditional Thai-Lao style.
rnWalking and cycling are the activities of choice, and you’ll soon see why when you take to the dusty tracks leading out of Muang Sing towards the distant rim of mountains.
