DAY Day 1
Bicycle to to Cu Chi Tunnels
To get to the amazing countryside of Cu Chi, we left early from Saigon and when we got there, we began our cycling adventure. We passed through beautiful villages and natural scenery that comprised farmland and waterways alike. We were always off the beaten track, and we also saw an amazing monument to Buddhism – a spectacular pagoda. Once we got to Cu Chi, we found an incredible network of tunnels that stretched out for miles and went really deep. We learned that they were important during the war, when they were used as supply routes, communications bases, medical treatment, general life and weapons stores for the North Vietnamese militants. These tunnels formed the base of the Vietnamese resistance against the US, as the American troops weren’t familiar with the tunnels and couldn’t track or locate the Vietnamese fighters. Some of these tunnels are now dedicated to tourism and you can crawl around and experience what life was like - in complete safety, of course. You can also take a look at the old traps they used to use.
Anyway, after lunch, we went to the next starting point for our cycling adventure. We went along a river, enjoying the breath-taking rural scenery once again. Once we reached the end, we took a ferry across the river and finished up with a transfer back to our hotel, to conclude a truly magical experience.
